Grandma Has a Book Prototype

Grandma is happy to announce that she has a copy of her book in hand. She went to the mail and there it was! The last couple of days have been spent looking it over and discussing necessary matters with the publisher.

More orders have come in and grandma is "making a list and checking it twice" . . . (Hey, isn't that supposed to be done by the fellah in the red suit?)

So . . . the countdown begins. Bedbug will soon be released to the world! There are lots of little kiddies who can't wait to get their BOOK and BUG. In fact, yesterday saw two more pre-orders. (No wonder grandma keeps checking her list . . . it keeps growing and growing!)

Grandma has one list for signed copies and another for those who simply want the book. Now, the first list, grandma will have to take care of herself; the second list will take care of itself because people will be able to go online and order the book.

Many people want additional copies so, as grandma has related, the number keeps growing and growing. One lady wants 5 copies! Wow! She must know lots of youngsters.

And, Grandma has to say that Nova Scotians have been wonderful. They like the idea of one of their own producing a book so she's seen interest from different areas of the province. Most NS folks want signed copies, as well.

Then there's grandma's friends. They're all "buggy" about the book.

Hmm . . . poor grandma had better sharpen her cyber-pencil, that list keeps growing and growing.

More Images

Here's another snapshot I took of the video of my book and adorable Bedbug. I cropped the picture and worked with the exposure to make the image clearer.

I'm very pleased with the lovely colors. Three thumbs up to Edward Aish for his wonderful illustrations and to the publisher for her outstanding efforts on behalf of The Bedbug Who Wouldn't Bite copyright Melody Rhodes, 2009.

The publisher has indicated that more Bedbug videos have been made and I will include these at the blog, as they become available.

It has been so gratifying to see my ideas take shape and blossom into a story! All three of us have collaborated to produce this wonderful little book, an undertaking that has taken us months to execute.

Sneak Peek at Bedbug Book &Toy!

Today, we have a sneak peek at the actual Bedbug book and Bedbug toy, courtesy of the publisher, in an uncut little video with a rambunctious child and, of course, cute little Bedbug.

This video is "ah natural" --a fun and unpolished clip, which only makes it more charming.

Note: three little kids were very pleased to see the Bedbug book and toy. One seven year-old boy read the story three times. All three bugged for their own book and bug and the publisher had to explain that the bug and book used for the video were reserved for that purpose.

Three little uns who can't wait to get their own books and bugs.

Publisher's Note: At Last!! We have a prototype book and bug - just one of each --- lots more to come to launch the book, the bug and the bag before Christmas 2009! YES, THIS YEAR!! Have a look at my very first video clip, unedited and just a trial, but I thought it was so cute that I'd put it on YouTube to share.

Grandma Has Seen Bedbug Book

Well, jumpin' bugs! . . . Grandma saw the BOOK last night!!

She watched (virtually) as the publisher inserted the Bedbug BOOK into the BAG, then slipped little ol' me, BEDBUG, inside, too!

Now, I have to say, I looked so cute peeking out through the filmy fabric. Little kids will be able to see me and I'll be able to see them!! The book could clearly be seen, as well. I curled up inside on top of it and made myself cozy.

Right now, the book is on its way to Grandma, so she can look everything over.

I'm soooo excited! Soon, I'll be poppin' up everywhere!

Poor Grandma and the publisher . . . they've been hard at work for months while I've been getting into mischief: showing up in the dryer of all things! (hey, those towels were nice and soft!) and I even appeared in a bed and surprised some adults (hee, hee).

PUBLICATION IS JUST WEEKS AWAY!

Bedbug Coming to a Christmas Stocking Near You!

I think every child will relate to Bedbug--because kids wiggle and giggle and want stories and drinks and snacks!

Latest "Bite"
All has been quiet. Grandma sent in the last two approvals on Nov. 5th and is now waiting to receive a hard copy of the BEDBUG BOOK. Once she sees that and approves it, we are ready to go to print!!

So, it's looking like the BEDBUG BOOK will be released before Christmas, which means that many children will wake up to find the BOOK and the BUG in the BAG in their Christmas stocking!

Today, grandma heard that another Nova Scotia resident wants a copy of the book for her daughter. Grandma has to thank Nova Scotians because already many pre-orders have come in. It seems that Nova Scotians support their own!

The Book . . . the Bug . . . the Bag

It's coming! The BOOK . . . the BUG . . . in the BAG.

Each BEDBUG BOOK and BEDBUG TOY comes in its own little BAG, so that young ones can carry it with them wherever they go and hopefully prevent BEDBUG from getting lost

I mentioned in a recent post that some children had begged for the publisher's BEDBUG TOY. The mother of the tots related that she found BEDBUG wrapped up in towels in the dryer and even out on the clothesline! That must have been such an unexpected but cute sight.

If young ones remember to place the BOOK and the BUG in the BAG, they will have them for years to come. Alternatively, each toy in the BEDBUG BOOK SERIES can be collected and stored in a safe spot.

BEDBUG IS ALMOST HERE!

Bedbug dropping in to bug you! Grandma and the publisher have been hard at it, working the "bugs" out of the forthcoming book. Whew! I never realized just what is involved in making a children's book!!

Thank goodness I just have to be cute and that kids actually WANT me in their beds . . . of course, they will have to get their own little BAG, with the BOOK and the BUG (me!) tucked away inside. Little tykes all over the world will be able to carry the BOOK and BUG around, in the BAG we live in--especially if they don't want to lose adorable me, bedbug.

Although . . .

The publisher has put a bug in grandma's ear that two little 'uns lost me in their beds!! Now, they weren't afraid 'cause I DON'T BITE but . . . their MOMMY found me curled up in a dryer sheet and even on the clothes line. Hmm . . . hope I didn't surprise her, hiding away like that and SNOOZING!!

So, I'm telling children everywhere to make sure that when they get their own little BAG, with the BOOK and the BUG, to carry us around, ALL TOGETHER, so that nothing gets lost.

A Book is Being Born!

Yesterday, October 12, was very special. Why? Grandma got a sneak peek at her book!

The publisher sent the file showing the photo-illustrations with text overlaid on them. It is an incredible feeling when you see your book come to life: vivid pictures and text combine to create magic.

We Are Now Busy Tweaking
  • Yesterday, we discussed word changes-- Grandma changed one word in the verses because after seeing the photo illustration she thought this particular word would work better and add to the visual appeal of the scene.
  • We are still making decisions about how scenes will be portrayed.
  • We discussed the "clue" that gives children a hint about the next story in the series.
Final decisions are still in the works but real progress is being made on the first Bedbug book.

When Grandma went to a Thanksgiving supper recently, one of the questions she was asked, after her friends saw the cover was: "Why doesn't the bug bite?" Grandma grinned and said, "You'll have to read the story to find out."

Announcement: WE HAVE A BOOK COVER!

ANNOUNCEMENT: Bedbug is happy to announce that we have a book cover!

I'm bu-humming with excitement! Just think, soon I'll be making an appearance in kids' beds and homes!

Bedbug says: You CAN bite but you can choose NOT to!
